Help for Embervale on iPhone and iPad.
How to play
Two sides, Ember and Vale, try to keep a piece on the pale inner 4×4 lawn of an 8×8 field. Ember starts on top; Vale on the bottom.
- Two Player: pass the phone or tablet after each turn. Ember moves first.
- Solo: play Ember or Vale against an automaton (Greenhorn, Keeper, Warden, or Sharp).
- Game Center: correspondence play against someone on another Apple device.
- The first two turns only step onto the lawn and cannot leap. After that, walk one square or leap over a piece onto the empty square beyond.
- Leaping your own piece does not take it. Leaping an opponent takes that piece. Extra leaps after a leap are optional.
- After the opening, a side with no piece on the lawn loses. A side with a piece on the lawn but no legal move also loses.
Game Center tips
- Sign in to Game Center. The Matches button stays disabled until you are signed in.
- Ember is the first seat; Vale is the second. Invite a friend or take an open match.
- Turns do not expire in ordinary play (the app uses a very long timeout).
- Leave returns to the start screen and does not resign. Forfeit resigns.
FAQ
Game Center sign-in
Use Settings → Game Center, or open Game Center from the start screen once signed in. Solo and Two Player work without signing in.
How do turns work online?
Make your move; Game Center stores the board for the other player. You do not have to stay in the app. Open Matches (or Your Turn) when it is your seat again.
Leave vs. Forfeit
Leave returns to the start screen and does not resign. Forfeit resigns the match.
Does the app need an account or track me?
No in-app account, no ads, no purchases. See the privacy policy.
